Quad Reorganization Planning

BOSTON, MA

MDS provided comprehensive programming, space planning and design concepts to reorganize, relocate and renovate 109,000 sf of pre-clinical research lab facilities on multiple floors in the HMS East and North Quads. Working with Administration and Department leadership, we developed space demand projections to accommodate program growth and faculty realignments, meet new space-efficient standards, and provide special teaching space together with core lab and support facilities for each department.

Alternative scenario-planning compared space utilization, growth opportunities, and relocation and fit-out costs for Neurobiology, Microbiology, Systems Biology, Immunology and other specialties, and assessed campus capacity for program growth over a 5-to-10-year period. Our implementation plans involve multi-phase department relocations among five Quad buildings, reflecting space availability, move sequence timing, optimal operating relationships and infrastructure improvements for the $72 million project.

MDS continues to serve Harvard Medical School by designing and implementing a range of renovations to accommodate the evolving departmental and research needs.
