The Department of Systems Biology is a dynamic and growing area of research at Harvard Medical School. MDS designed and implemented the comprehensive renovation and fit-out of collaborative research lab serving the Springer, Klein, Gunawardena, and Yin Labs of the Systems Biology Department, located on the fifth floor of the Armenise Building.

Phase one created 5,175 sf of wet lab, offices, conference, and interactive spaces. Phase two created an additional 3,175 sf of wet and dry lab, interactive and conference spaces. The labs are designed to support evolving experimental approaches. Flexible casework with overhead carriers accommodate a variety of equipment and research configurations. Offices are designed to foster collaboration with extensive transparency that connects private offices with an open work space. The project was designed and implemented under Harvard Green Building Standards.
