Entry and new Member Services Desk

Shad Hall is Harvard Business School’s hub for fitness and wellness and home to the Tennenbaum Technology Operations Center on the basement level. Our targeted renovations to the first floor of Shad Hall transformed the entry experience for students and faculty and enhanced staff operations.

The main entrance was updated by opening up the lobby to the building’s atrium. Turnstiles with security card access were added to enhance the check-in experience and improve efficiency. Patrons can conveniently borrow equipment, purchase HBS merchandise, towel service, and schedule activities at the new Member Service desk, prominently located at the entrance.

A new front desk for Operations was also created. Previously located on the lower level, this new visible location provides students convenient access to the Operations staff. Improved work settings and ancillary support spaces feature new furniture and finishes, as well as acoustic enhancements that mitigate noise and vibration from the weight room located above the Member Service area.

The 3,500 sf renovation met Harvard University’s Green Building Standards and enabled continuous occupancy of Shad Hall during construction. Delivered on a fast-track schedule, the updated entry opened in August 2021.
